Eason Performs Theme Song for "Shanghai Volunteer Expo 2010"

Volunteers get a sign, a slogan and a song

SHANGHAI unveiled its World Expo volunteer logo today - it includes the Chinese character for heart, the letter "V" and a dove of peace carrying an olive branch.

The character "心" is to reflect the warm-hearted spirit of the volunteers who will serve the participants and visitors and the letter V stands for "volunteer." The dove and the olive branch convey a message of peace, friendship, sustainable development and hope, an extension of the "Better City, Better Life" theme.

The logo was unveiled on the 400-day countdown to the opening of Expo 2010 by Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng at the Wusa Monument Square in Huangpu District, near Nanjing Road E.

The logo is the third Expo symbol using a Chinese character after the Expo emblem itself which is shaped like "世" (world) and the mascot Haibao, a cartoon figure in the shape of the Chinese character "人."

It was designed by a Shangdong Province man, Li Xiaoli, said Hu Liqian of the volunteers department with the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.

As well Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng announced that "At Your Service At Expo" has been chosen as the volunteer slogan for Shanghai World Expo. It has three sub-logos -- "My Will, My Help, My Pleasure," "2010, We're Together As One" and "Our City, Your Joy."

The slogan was submitted by Huang Yuanyuan, a student of Jinan University in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province.

The winning logo and slogan were selected from 15,717 entries after a 147-day search wrapped up in April last year. About 10 percent of the suggestions came from overseas. An online vote for the 10 finalists was held at the end of last year.

At the announcement the Hong Kong singer Eason Chan Yik-Shun sang "By Your Side," the volunteer song for Expo 2010.

The song, 在你身邊, is written by Beijing's Zhang Ya Dong (張亞東), penned by Hong Kong's Keith Chan Siu Kei (陳少琪) and performed by Hong Kong's Eason Chan.

Upcoming Film: "Dream Home"

The first production from the company 852 Films, formed by Josie Ho & Conroy Chan, Dream Home stars Josie Ho, Anthony Wong and Eason Chan.

852 opens with 'Dream Home'
Josie Ho stars in Pang Ho-cheung slasher film

By Jonathan Landreth

HONG KONG -- Casino heiress, rocker and actress Josie Ho is christening her movie finance and production company 852 Films by turning a dark corner with a slasher film about a Hong Kong girl who will go to any length to attain her dream home.

Inspired by the woes of the average citizen facing Hong Kong's inflated property market, "Dream Home" -- by local writer-director Pang Ho-cheung -- "tries to address what is happening in our economy now," Andrew Ooi, the film's executive producer and Ho's partner in the new production outfit, told The Hollywood Reporter.

852 -- which takes its name from Hong Kong's telephone prefix -- was co-founded in 2007 with Ho's husband, actor Conroy Chan, and plans to make five films in the coming year with "support from Josie's family," Ooi said.

Best known for her bad-girl antics and her performances in films such as "Forever and Ever" (2002), "Naked Ambition" (2004) and "Exiled" (2006), Ho is a daughter of Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho and a younger sister of MGM Grand Macau co-owner Pansy Ho.

"Dream Home" is indeed shaping up as a family affair, what with director Pang's wife Subi Liang joining Ho and Chan as a producer of the nearly $4 million project set to begin shooting Friday in Hong Kong's Causeway Bay district.

"We've got our own financing and have been struggling to get more to do indie films since 2007," said Ooi, long a Vancouver-based talent agent.

"It's tough, so we thought we'd start with something close to the heart, a Hong Kong movie."

Best known outside Asia for his 2006 film "Isabella" -- a complicated family drama set in Macau -- Pang says he chose a slasher film as his next project because he's always loved Hollywood's B-grade movies.

"I've probably been watching too many and it's not easy to find a new story for me to work on. I need a fresh subject," Pang said.

To bring focus to the lighting and music he feels are key to slasher films, Pang hired Wong Kar Wai's longtime lights man Wong Chi-ming and Italian composer Gabriele Roberto ("Memories of Matsuko").

"In my past films, I didn't have a strong sense of lighting design. Since my collaboration with Mr. Wong, we have many vibrations to build up emotion through lighting design," Pang said. Regarding the music, he added, "I would love the music to give the audience a disturbing feeling while watching my work."

"Dream Home" also stars Anthony Wong ("Infernal Affairs"), Eason Chan ("Lady Cop & Papa Crook"), Michelle Ye Suen ("Vengeance"), Lawrence Chou ("Re-cycle") and Derek Tsang ("Ocean Flame"), who co-wrote the script with Pang and Jimmy Wan, who also worked on "Isabella."

The film is being shot by Yu-Lik Wai ("Still Life," "Plastic City"), with production design from Lim Chung ("Trivial Matters"). Wenders Li ("Warlords") will edit and Andrew Lin Hoi ("Mimic") and Vittaya Deerattrakul ("Bangkok Dangerous") will handle special effects. Computer visual effects will be done by Fat Face Prods. ("Warlords").

Produced by Subi Liang, Conroy Chan and Ho, and executive produced by Andrew Ooi, Dream Home is based on a script orginated by Pang and written by Pang, Derek Tsang and Jimmy Wan, who last collaborated together on Isabella.

Michelle Ye Suen, Lawrence Chou, Derek Tsang, Juno Mak, Sip Lap Man and veteran actors Wong Ching and Lo Hoi Pang round out the cast.

Ho has previously starred in films such as Johnnie To’s Exiled and Kenneth Bi’s The Drummer and had a cameo role in Hyde Park/20th Century Fox’s Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun Li.

Based in Hong Kong, 852 Films is a company set up by Chan, Ho and Ooi which is developing, producing and financing a slate of five films.

What Happened to Band Leader Pal Sinn's Song?

If you haven't already noticed, Moving On Stage 1 band leader Pal Sinn will not have a song in the upcoming album H3M.

Rumors are circulating that:

Pal wrote a song that has a special meaning behind it and he insisted on having Mandarin lyrics. However, a full Cantonese album with one Mandarin track seemed out of place (as Go East decided, Eason was fine with a Mandarin song) so the song was not recorded.

C.Y. Kong states:

"Mr. Pal Sinn, decided not to take part, even tho production had begun on his song"

Eason Successfully Requests a Song from Crowd Lu

Taiwanese singer Crowd Lu 盧廣仲 held his first concert (Crowd Lu 100 Ways of Living Concert 盧廣仲100種生活演唱會) in Hong Kong at Star Hall on March 14, 2009. Among the guests that watched the show were Hong Kong's Eason Chan, Fiona Sit, Khalil Fong, Louis Cheung, Pakho Chau, Wong Ka Keung with wife, Eric Kot with wife and son, among many others. It was revealed that Eason asked Crowd Lu to write a song for him when visiting backstage, which Crowd says has given him some pressure. "I am a bit nervous, but it's good that Eason didn't give me a deadline. I've always written songs for myself and never wrote for anyone, so I'm going to write this song slowly and it should be fun." In the future, Crowd hopes he can hold student concerts in Hong Kong.

C.Y., Davy & Eason Collaboration Will Conclude With "H3M"...

...for the time being.

As C.Y. Kong put it himself:
"It's [HHHM's] probably the last album we're producing for Eason for the time being. I feel that he needs to move on and work with other producers - so he can have more variety and explore more grounds! But before that, my aim for this album was really to bring him back down a bit, a bit more closer back to the mass, since I feel for the last album and compilation album, he had been slightly off track doing songs that were diverting him away from the public. So in a way, this album, sorry that you won't find wild, spooky, outrageous songs, but more ballads, more easy listening songs, with the touches, the heart, the feelings etc - that is, not only just Eason's feelings, but also apply to anyone, everyone!"
FYI: All but one song on the upcoming album was produced by the trio of C.Y. Kong, Davy Chan and Eason Chan.

Producers:
01. Allegro Opus 3.3 a.m. - Gary Tong, Davy, C. Y., Eason
Precious Love - Davy, C.Y., Eason
Guilty Conscience - Pam Chung, Davy, C. Y., Eason
One Thing Per Day - Joey Tang, Davy, C. Y., Eason

700 Years Later - Jim Lau, Davy, C. Y., Eason
07. Life Goes On - Anthony Sun, Gary Tong, Eason

Here's a recap of the previously released info about the album, and the following are details/commentary of the upcoming album from the fans who watched the concert live.

Details:
(Traveler) due to the original title being too similar to Myolie Wu's (Solo Travel)
  • C.Y. Kong's song is titled
  • Eason's song is titled 沙龍, lyrics by Wyman Wong
  • Eason & Co. will plug (Pam Chung). Eason said everyone in the company voted in favor of plugging
  • Eason, again, wants to plug ALL 10 songs
Commentary:
  • Word of mouth is that 不來也不去 is yet another impressive song by C.Y. and the difficulty level gets higher as the song progresses. Eason said C.Y. continues to challenge him as this song is extremely difficult to perform.
  • Last line to 於心有愧 (Lin Xi) is very haunting: 直到某年某日我能安息於葬禮 仍想你一家可到齊
  • 今天只做一件事 (Joey Tang & 舒文) is very relaxing

New Mandarin Album(s) Expected in August

Eason Chan was doing a round of promotions for his upcoming Eason's Moving On Stage 21 - Taipei (Part II) concerts where he said, aside from the songs he performed the first time, he also wants to incorporate songs from his last album Don't Want To Let Go and his upcoming album Eason and the H Cube M Band into the two upcoming shows, and joked that he might have to sing for 48 hours.

It is estimated that Eason's new Mandarin album(s) will be released in August of this year. He is currently gathering songs and already has a concept in mind. He wants to invite Taiwan's Will Lin 林暐哲 and Beijing's Zhang Ya Dong 張亞東 (two different styles from two different shores) as producers. He hopes that they can produce two different sounding, but equally great, EPs.

FYI: Eason said that this song is reminiscent of the film Wall-E.
