The Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild, established in August 1993, is the main artists association in Hong Kong whose members include actors, singers and stage performers. The 4 main purposes of the Guild are strengthening communication within Hong Kong's artists, raising professional standards and quality in the industry, protect and promote the rights and interests of Hong Kong's artists, and be active and involved in charitable events.
Eric Tsang's term as President of the Guild is coming to an end, so members of the Guild held a voting session where the next President and Vice Presidents were voted for. On January 11, 2008, it was announced that Alan Tam will be the next President while Andy Lau and Eason Chan will be the next Vice Presidents of the Guild.
Eason, who was at the 2007 TVB Jade Solid Gold Music Awards the next day, joked with reporters and told them to call him 'Vice President' and he will need to collect a 360 HKD membership fee from singers. He further joked that he will send the language fluent Hins Cheung to be his debt collector (收數).
