Confusion at Universal Records

News sources are reporting that Eason's upcoming Mandarin album info is being leaked online prior to it's promotion, including releasing info on composers, lyricists, song titles, album title, release date, etc.

In regards to the "info leak," Universal Records responds there there are truths and fallacies to the "leaked" info, stating that the expected release date, album title, and a portion of song titles are correct. Universal issued a statement: "Fans are too enthusiastic to support Eason, but this will cause problems for the company when promoting the album. We hope that, for the sake of Eason, fans will understand [and not leak info.]"

Although the news sources don't name any particular site as "leaking" the info, this blog is one (of many) who has posted info regarding Eason's upcoming Mandarin album. There is no intention of causing problems for promo of the upcoming album, but this blog would like to state: there is CONFUSION at Universal Records!

On Tuesday, May 27, 2008, Eason went onto 2 radio shows (CRHK & RTHK) to PROMOTE the upcoming Mandarin album. Eason himself named the 9 track titles, composers, lyricists, album title, release date, etc. Therefore, there is no leakage.

Universal Records needs to get with the program.
News sources might want to ask Katie Chan next time.

Lin Xi put a lot of effort into the lyrics so 2 versions (Mandarin & English) was going to be recorded, but Lin Xi insisted on the English version only. Eason insisted that he would one day get the opportunity to perform this song with Lin Xi's Chinese lyrics.

2007 RTHK Music Awards - 30th Anniversary

The 30th Anniversary 2007 RTHK Music Awards Ceremony was held Saturday January 19, 2008 at Hong Kong Coliseum. Eason Chan was the big winner of the night, taking home 3 awards in addition to the 3 he already received on January 13, 2008, making him the biggest winner at the 4 major Hong Kong music award ceremonies of 2007 and taking home the Four Stages Joint - Grand Media Award for an Artist.

Shayne Ward Says Eason is an Intelligent Artist

English singer Shayne Ward, who was at this fourth run at promotions in the Asian Market, expressed his appreciation to his Hong Kong fans for their support. Shayne, who is currently in Shanghai continuing his promoting efforts, says he attempted to learn Mandarin but his pronunciations aren't accurate.

On another note, Shayne talked about his experience in collaborating with Eason Chan and Karen Mok last month. Aside from saying it was a satisfying experience, he also praised Eason as an intelligent artist though he will not keep his hopes high that the two will be able to work together in the future. He also says that being able to work with different artists was an interesting experience. As for recent reports that indicate he will be nominated for the annual Brit Awards, Shayne modestly answers "I will, of course, be happy if I'm nominated, but even if I'm not I'll continue to do my job."

Note: Shayne and Eason were guest presenters at the 2007 RTHK Music Awards this past Sunday, January 13th. Before the presentations Shayne was asked which Hong Kong artist he would like to work with, which he answered "Eason Chan," with the reason being "we have this connection" [when they worked together previously.] Eason answers "it would be my pleasure to be able to work with you." Eason was asked the same question where he replies "it would be an honor to work with Shayne and I would also like to work with Sting." Eason further discusses with the RTHK DJ's and says it would be easier for him to work with Sting than with Shayne because he and Sting share the same record label.

2007 RTHK Music Awards - Partial Results

The 30th Anniversary 2007 RTHK Music Awards was partially held on January 13, 2008 afternoon. With the large number of awards, RTHK decided to split the awards and give most of them out on January 13th to save time for the performances during the ceremony, which will be held on January 19, 2008. Eason Chan accepted 3 awards that afternoon.

Eason Chosen to be Mother-in-Law

Yesterday, singers attended the 30th RTHK Music Awards' press conference. In celebration of 30 years of their music award, RTHK organized an artist voting segment where each artist voted for their "music family" in coordination with this year's theme of "We Are Family." The results of the voting revealed Hacken Lee as the father, Eason Chan as the mother (mother-in-law), Leo Ku as the eldest son, Miriam Yeung as the wife (daughter-in-law), Joey Yung as the daughter, and Kelvin Kwan as the servant. After being crowned the mother-in-law, Eason played around with the removable mole he was given, placing it at different places on his face and even onto Kay Tse's face.

Each singer was asked, then answered, regarding this year's awards and their possible outcome.

Hacken responds that hopes he can win the Gold Song Award and feels that Eason's Crying in the Party, Hins Cheung's 酷愛 and his own 花落誰家 has the highest chance of winning. He feels that Eason has the highest chance of winning the Male Singer Award.

Miriam responds that she only had one album so she has very few songs that made it on top of the charts, but she would make Leon Lai, A-Music boss, happy by winning just one award. She further says that no one will know what the outcome will be until the end, and until the end comes she will continue to promote herself.

Joey responds she will go into the awards as usual and saying, "of course I'll be happy if I win awards, but I won't be disappointed if I don't win."

Leo responds he feels Justin, Eason, Hins and himself have the highest chances of winning the Male Singer Award. When asked regarding Paco Wong, Gold Label Manager, not helping Justin push for awards because of his bad attitude, Leo defended Justin in saying that Justin's attitude is perfectly fine.

Eason responds two years ago he went into the awards with high expectations only to be disappointed at the end. He won numerous big awards last year, but was at a lost for direction in his music. Being in the industry for over 10 years, he now hopes he can thank his company's employees. When told he is expected to be the big winner at the end of the year, he responds that he isn't particularly happy after being told such news, but if he can help his company win some awards then he'll be happy. He feels the employees at his company work extremely hard, so if he wins awards it's an indication that the employees' hard work paid off.

Andy Hui, who was at a separate event, was also asked regarding the awards. He responds, "I think Eason has the highest chance of winning the Male Singer Award, we've witnessed the success he's had this year."

Wednesday night, Eric Suen was at TVB for the recording of JSG where he was asked regarding his position at this year's award ceremonies. He responds, "I am very happy with my results this year, but I am not going to think too much of the Male Singer Award. I think Eason has the highest chance of winning; when I go around the world to places where they know of Hong Kong singers, they know Eason. I hope that, in the future, I will be recognized like he is."

What exactly does "Moving On Stage 1" mean? 8 colors? English track list?

With 15 concerts coming up and a new album to be released, there are a couple of questions out there that need answers. Eason gives us those answers during 2 radio interviews with CRHK & RTHK last week.

What exactly does Moving On Stage 1 mean?

It can mean 2 things:

1. It has been 12 years since Eason released his first album and at this stage of his career he is ready to move on. Moving On signifies he is ready to put aside what he has done in these 12 years as the First Stage of his career and move on to Stage 2, whatever that may bring.

2. Eason hopes he can bring this concert to other cities, and conveniently putting the number 1 at the end makes it easier (and different) when it comes to naming those other shows. For example: when he did his Get a Life tour the titles were -- Get a Life Live in Hong Kong, Get a Life Live in Singapore, Get a Life Live in Malaysia, etc. If Moving on Stage were to turn into a tour, instead of Live in (city name here), they can just add a number at the end and it will signify how many cities they've toured.

Why are there going to be 8 album colors?

Eason knows this guy name Lui who gives self-designed t-shirts to his friends as gifts. It may seem a little cheap because t-shirts don't cost much money, but the brilliance of it is lies in the form of friendship. When you are walking down the street and you see someone with the same t-shirt as you, you'll know that they're a friend of Lui's and they'll know you're a friend of Lui's because of the t-shirt's authenticity.

One day, Lui designed and gave Eason a t-shirt that had the words "Listen to Eason Chan" on it. Eason wore it out and that was that. Some time passed and Eason saw that Lui made a template, with a variation of 7 colors, of the "Listen to Eason Chan" t-shirts and decided to use the t-shirt logo and the title "Listen to Eason Chan" for his next album cover.

Track List with English? Sort of...

Earlier at CRHK's 903 Love Union program, Eason asked whether it would be a good idea to use all English titles in his upcoming album since the 1st plug, Crying in the Party, was a full English title. I guess they decided it wasn't a good idea. Instead, they decided to do Cantonese pinyin in English. Apparently they're really precise about the English sounds, in hopes that someone who doesn't know Cantonese would be able to pronounce the titles like he/she knows Cantonese.

Concert and Album Updates

As Eason said himself during his recent CRHK 903 and RTHK interviews, here are the updates/newest news to his upcoming concerts and album.

Location
Eason is, since August 23rd, in various parts of China doing his second leg of promotions for Admit It. He will not return to Hong Kong until the beginning of September when he will devote his time to prepare for his upcoming concert and finishing up on his upcoming dance album.

In September he will be in China again for another round of concerts for Admit It.

Concerts
Eason says there will not be a theme to his upcoming Moving on Stage 1 concerts (unlike Get a Life and Third Encounter.) It will be more of a "regular" concert where he will sing and interact with the audience.

Album
After recording is done for his upcoming dance album it will be sent to England for mixing, something which Eason is very happy about because Cineoply is giving it full support.

Michael Lai & Wyman Wong's Crying in the Party will be the only slow song/non-dance genre in the album, though it ties in with the dance theme because the song is set in a party scene.

In Wyman Wong's POV, Crying... is about everyone knowing/experiencing someone that cries at a party, at a random time, when everyone is having fun, but eventually this person will stop crying and the party continues. This song is set to be placed in the middle of the album, as a breather. It also works well it Wyman's POV as the first half will be having fun at a party, Michael Lai's track will be the person crying, and the second half will be the party continues.

The bonus track will probably be the theme to the upcoming Brothers. It is probable because Andy Lau already released his album and since Eason's is the next to be released they'll put it in his album. Eason prefers the song to be put on the internet as a single, but it is not up to him. The song is composed by Eason, written by Andy Lau and performed by both.

Eric Kwok's song was originally breakbeat, but now it is unknown. Eason's voice was rather raspy during his August 16th interview with CRHK 903. When Mini asked him why his voice was raspy he said it was because he was recording Eric's song for the past few days. He used the word "crazy" to describe Eric's song because it was difficult to sing, he says there's no breathing room and it goes from high to low and back. Eason performs a piece of Eric's song during his RTHK interview (found in the previous post.)

A piece of Wong Seung Wai's latin piece can be heard on the Johnny Walker sponsored television special (found in the previous post.)

When asked when the new dance album will be released Eason says it should be October, during his interview with RTHK (found in the previous post.)

Recent Radio and Television Appearances

After filming the upcoming October release Brothers, Eason made a couple of public appearances to promote his upcoming concerts, album and new plug Crying in the Party.

1. He first appeared on CRHK 903's radio program, hosted by Mini, on August 16th.

2. He then appeared on RTHK's radio program, hosted by 李志剛, on August 22nd.
